#MPL – Welcome to physical fitness quarter

Mountain Post Living is shifting its focus for the months of July, August and September to physical health and fitness.

Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, and the surrounding Pikes Peak region offers many opportunities for each of us to enhance our physical well-being. The MPL website will highlight these resources and provide recommendations to reach every level of fitness.

In addition, look for videos featuring various physical fitness centers on Carson, as well as the Army Wellness Center and a variety of scalable exercises to meet your individual needs. You don’t have to make huge changes to see big results. Taking a 20-minute walk after dinner and staying consistent can lead to weight loss, lower blood pressure, better memory, improved mood and increased energy. These results are possible in just a short amount of time each evening.

For those of you looking for a social atmosphere, Fort Carson and the surrounding communities have resources to encourage you to get out, be active, and see the beauty of this state alongside a fun group. Check out local running stores or bike shops for group runs and rides. It’s a great way to meet people who have a passion for fitness and encourage newcomers to experts to continue to pursue their goals. Simply entering a search on the internet for “Colorado Springs Fitness Groups” can help connect you with something that fits your interests.

For the next three months, the MPL Team will be encouraging and empowering you to take the first step to become more physically active or set goals to challenge your existing level of fitness. Check out these local fitness and activity options to get your heart rate up:
  • Fort Carson Iron Horse Sports and Fitness Center and other MWR facilities ( Fitness classes ranging from spinning to Zumba to CrossFit. Free classes are also available at select physical fitness centers.
  • Friends of Cheyenne Mountain State Park ( Family-friendly nature walks, archery classes and ranges, and over 20 miles of trails right across the street from the Fort Carson main gate.
  • Colorado State Parks ( See what Colorado has to offer from fishing to camping to hiking. Check out their military entrance rates on their website.
  • Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services ( Open spaces and parks ranging from Garden of the Gods to North Cheyenne Canyon.
